wheelchair ramps

My neighbor is not LDS; but she is old and frail and she did need a wheelchair ramp built on her house.?

I cannot physically help, but I made some calls and several members and the missionaries built the ramp. I just got a rather blistering phone call from a Sister about how our resources should be for members. I was so mad at her that I am shaking, Is she right?

The Bishop of your Ward is responsible for every person living within the boundaries of his Ward. With this responsibility, he not only serves the members of the Church but of nonmembers for many reasons. This is a heavy load but is given to him in his position by the Church. The main Church Office helps members and non-members in many area situations (floods, earthquakes, etc.) by sending items (kits, tents, food, etc.) to those needing it all over the world. This is a humanitarian effort to help anyone in need. And they ask each of us to do our part either by volunteering our time and muscle or by donating monies to assist in paying for the cost. Missionaries are instructed to assist in these area needs and in others that they see. If the Sister has taken part in preparing items for the humanitarian effort, she might have a different view but maybe she is upset with you for starting the ball rolling while she needs help herself or knows someone whom does and she didn’t step forward. You were and are correct in being concerned for your fellow human (especially a neighbor) and correct in stepping forward in requesting humanitarian assistance in providing the ramp. There aren’t enough of us that are willing to step forward when the situation warrants it. The Church is well recognized for its willingness to help those in need within its guidelines as determined by its leaders. Thank you for your willingness to help.
